In the modern world it is impossible to imagine effective business without international cooperation, international Commerce and strong partnerships between companies from different countries. Accordingly, it is impossible to imagine a successful business without knowledge of the English language, and not just readily available spoken language – business English. Business language is characterized by a rather narrow field of use, and because even those who speak English only at a basic level, no problem to master business English, business correspondence, organization of telephone conversations or business presentations.

Start a career in international business: draw up a summary in English

In the English-speaking business culture summary distinguish two types: the actual resume and more detailed version – a Curriculum vitae, or CV. On the Internet you can find many sample documents of both types. As a rule, for admission to work in a prestigious company enough to make the resume – a short help about the education, job experience, acquired skills and abilities. CV is a more detailed document and contains detailed information about the professional success, achievements in science, publications, awards, degrees. To make CV in advance makes sense only in the case if Your position will interface with research, teaching or creative activities. In other cases, a potential employer may require a CV on its own initiative – be prepared to expand the resume and add a list of their academic achievements.

Strictly speaking, the content of the abstract in English of approximately duplicates the usual Russian-language summary. There are only a few differences.

First of all, in the beginning of the document is not put the word «resume». Begin immediately by providing a name and surname (middle name can be specified, but not necessarily), for example: Roman Petrov. This is followed by the contact data, beginning with postal addresses. Address begins with the smallest values of: street name, house number and apartment. Only then, if necessary, record the city, country and postcode. For example:

Roman Petrov
Suvorova, 150, apt. 34
Krasnodar, 350063, Russia.
(867) 000-00-00

You can then specify the personal information, if they are required by the employer. The section is called Personal Data. It usually includes date of birth, marital status and information about children. For example:

Date of birth: 05/26/1980 (do not forget that in the first place indicates the month, not the number).
Marital status: single.

Business correspondence in English simple, and novice workers fear it is in vain to compose business letters. The main thing – to adhere to traditional rules and the hand to use standard expressions of business language.

The wording of the appeal to the reader, as parting with it depends on You know the recipient or not. If not, to apply in writing to it should be in the plural (“Dear Sirs”) or using the preposition “or” (“Dear Sir or Madam”). If You know the name of the addressee, the appeal takes the appropriate form: “Dear Mr., Mrs., Miss”. When writing letters to a woman it is better to use the abbreviation “Ms”, especially if You are unsure of her marital status.

As an introduction you can use the following standard phrase:

Thank you for your letter… – Thank you for Your letter…
Further to your latest request / e-mail… – in answer to Your request / message by email…
With reference to your e-mail… – on Your letter…

To specify the reason of writing the letter, you can use the simple phrase “I am writing to…” and substitute the right verbs. For example, «I am writing to inquire about…» – «I am writing to inquire…».

Business correspondence in English is important key point: it is widely used modal verbs and conditional mood. Examples can be found in such common phrases as:

We enclose… – attached… (literally «dropping»)
Attached you will find… – In the app You will find…

The signature and salutation is issued, depending on if You recognize the recipient. In this respect, business correspondence in English is more personal than business correspondence in Russian. Standard option – the phrase «Sincerely yours», which may sound like «Yours faithfully» (if the addressee is unknown) or «Yours sincerely» (if you know the name). Neutral signature implies the use of the phrase «With respect…», for example «Kind(est) regards».
